Stayed here for our first night when doing the ring road around Iceland. We were a bit taken aback when we first walked in as, on first impressions, it seemed a bit dingy, reception wasn’t obvious, and it turned out that we had to check in with the girl behind the bar who was eating sushi! Things got much better after this, and first impressions can be misleading. The room was great, a really good size, and very comfortable. It’s a bit out of the way, but there is a supermarket and KFC nearby if you need provisions. No complaints at all and a decent enough place for a one night stopover.

Hotel Laxness looks like a motel but has amazingly large rooms., especially for Iceland. It includes a small refrigerator, small sofa, three chairs, two small tables, a desk, two bedside tables, a shower and tub! No elevator. It's located across a parking lot from a nice KFC if you need that kind of food. It's also 250 meter from an excellent bakery. We were really pleased with our comfortable visit. The second floor has a hallway with interesting Iceland knickknacks.

I´ve stayed at Hotel Laxnes before and would do so again. There is a choice of smaller, cheaper rooms or larger more expensive rooms with a mountain view and plenty of space. There are many trees around the hotel and in the Mosfellsbær town, an important consideration in ´treeless´ Iceland. There is a pleasant KFC building alongside the hotel and all the other facilities are within easy reach. For those interested in Icelandic culture, there is a portrait in the entrance of Halldór Kiljan Laxnes, the 1955 Nobel Prize winner for Literature, who lived not far away on the Þingvellir road, and artefacts on the upper floor, representing various aspects of rural life in times past. Anna, the proprietress, is always friendly and helpful, as are the other staff. Breakfast is a full buffet . For those without a car there is a direct and frequent bus service from the stop outside the hotel into Reykjavík and indeed to the BSí coach station on the old Gamla Hringbraut road, where there is a direct Flybus service to and from Keflavík International Airport.

Location is a good starting point upon arrival from KEF Airport leaving Reykjavik behind you. Room was clean and comfy. The hotel is nicely decorated too. Parking is convenient. Breakfast is very good, nice bar, good place to meet other 'explorers' of Iceland.

With convenient location right by the ring road and less than one hour driving from the airport, Hotel Laxnes is an excellent option to start or finish a round trip in Iceland. The rooms are spotless and spacious and the breakfast is simple but good quality, price is reasonable in Icelandic comparison - highly recommended.

Interesting room layout, with a slanted ceiling and view of the mountain. Bed was fairly comfortable and staff were friendly. Breakfast buffet was filling and had adequate choices. Free parking.

Great location off of the Ring Road and the start of the Golden Circle. That is why we chose this hotel. Otherwise, nothing special about the hotel/motel. Good lamb stew in the hotel bar.
